Most Health and Safety roles either bury you in paperwork with zero support, or hand you a manager's workload for trainee money. This one gives you neither: genuine autonomy, experienced backup whenever you need it, and a clear route to significantly higher pay without ever having to manage a team. In a market this competitive, roles like this will not stay open for long.
We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing specialist pest management and field biology business based in Leeds, delivering services to customers across a range of sectors nationally. Our client is looking for a motivated Health and Safety Advisor to join the business and grow with it.
This is an individual contributor role with genuine autonomy and no direct reports, reporting to the General Manager. You will act as the business's internal point of contact for Health and Safety, working closely with the company's retained external Health and Safety consultants on more complex or specialist matters. That means real hands-on responsibility from day one, with experienced support close by when you need it.
Alongside your Health and Safety work, you will take collaborative ownership of the company's compliance platforms and accreditation schemes, including SafeContractor, Constructionline, ISNetworld, Avetta, EcoVadis and Net Zero reporting. You will also be genuinely invested in: the business will fund and support your progression through the RSPH Level 2 Award in Pest Management and toward BPCA Certificated Field Biologist status, alongside maintaining a small portfolio of client accounts.
What You'll Be Doing
- Acting as the business's internal Health and Safety contact, working alongside external consultants on specialist matters
- Developing, maintaining and reviewing Health and Safety policies, procedures and safe systems of work
- Carrying out workplace inspections, audits and risk assessments
- Investigating accidents and near misses and supporting corrective actions
- Managing renewals and submissions across the company's accreditation platforms
- Liaising with accreditation bodies, customer compliance teams and colleagues to gather required evidence
- Supporting customer pre-qualification and tender submissions
- Carrying out occasional client visits, inspections and surveys as part of your own account portfolio
What's on Offer
Pay Package
- £35,190 basic salary
- Performance related annual bonus of £5,000, taking total potential earnings to around £40,190 per year
- Company car
- Cash health plan and company pension
Holidays
- Statutory UK holiday entitlement rising by one additional day per year of service, up to a maximum of 25 days, plus bank holidays
Development
- Full funding and support for professional development, including a genuine pathway from NEBOSH General Certificate toward the NEBOSH Diploma (Level 6)
- Funded pest management and field biology qualifications
- A clear route into higher, more senior pay grades as you develop, based on growing expertise and scope rather than needing to move into people management
What They're Looking For
- NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety (or equivalent Level 3 qualification), whether gained recently or some time ago
- A genuine interest in building a long-term career in Health and Safety, Compliance and Risk Management
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills, with real attention to detail
- Confidence communicating with people at all levels, from operational teams to external auditors
- Full UK driving licence (6 points of less)
- Willingness to spend time in operational environments and build hands-on knowledge, not just work from a desk
Desirable but not essential: previous experience in a Health and Safety, Compliance, Quality or Audit role, familiarity with platforms such as SafeContractor or Constructionline, IOSH membership, or a personal interest in biology, ecology or pest management.
Why This Role?
This is a rare opportunity to build broad, genuinely valuable experience across Health and Safety, compliance and a specialist technical industry, for an employer with a strong reputation and real investment in its people. You will have autonomy from day one, support from experienced professionals whenever you need it, and a clear path to grow your earning potential over time, all without the pressure of managing a team before you are ready for it.
If you want a role where you will be trusted, developed and genuinely challenged, we would like to hear from you!
