Trainee Field Biologist | North East (Newcastle to Middlesbrough)
Stop looking for a job and start building a career with real teeth in pest control across the North East, covering Tyne and Wear, County Durham and Teesside.
If you're tired of the same old starter roles and want to join an elite technical consultancy at the very top of its game, read on. We're looking for someone with grit and a natural problem solver's mindset to join a powerhouse in the pest control sector. This isn't your standard service job. Our client employs around half of all qualified field biologists in the UK. Their reputation is so strong that they don't even need a sales team.
The Role
This is a frontline pest control role. You'll deal with pests of every kind, from rodents and insects to birds, and the work will regularly include extermination. You'll be out on client sites inspecting, identifying and treating infestations, and putting measures in place to stop them coming back. If you're squeamish or uncomfortable with the idea of killing pests, this won't be the role for you.
The Roadmap to Expert Status
This is a serious opportunity to build a career without the plateaus so common in the industry. You'll get extensive, continuous training as you progress from trainee to fully certified Field Biologist.
- The journey typically takes two to three years, but high achievers can do it in as little as eighteen months
- Your pay rises with every qualification you achieve
- Once you reach full Field Biologist level, you can expect a salary of £40,000+ per year
Who You Are
We're looking for a sharp mind and a strong work ethic.
- Education: A degree in a biological science is a welcome bonus but by no means essential. What matters is the determination to study hard and work through the professional qualifications.
- Experience: We have a strong preference for candidates with practical work experience, particularly in food production or a quick service restaurant environment.
- Leadership: If you've held a team leader role, either during your studies or in a previous job, we want to hear about it.
- Communication: You'll speak confidently with everyone from a site cleaner to a Managing Director, and you'll write clear, accurate technical reports.
- Practical skills: You're comfortable with computers and handy with a screwdriver.
- Attitude: You're comfortable getting hands on with all types of pest control work, including extermination.
- Licence: A full, clean UK manual driving licence is essential.
The Perks of the Profession
Our client is a passionate, inclusive organisation that invests heavily in its people. As a recruitment agency led by a veteran, we know what excellence looks like, and this client delivers it.
- Starting salary: From £25,620, with guaranteed increases as you qualify
- Transport: Company car or van (the van is a big win, as it isn't subject to company car tax)
- Equipment: Mobile phone plus a laptop or tablet
- Health and security: Cash health plan and stakeholder pension
- Sick pay: Three months' full sick pay once you've completed six months' service
- Holiday: 20 days plus bank holidays, rising each year to 25 days
- Bonus: Performance bonuses paid every November
Please Note
Although the title is Field Biologist, this is a pest control role first and foremost. You'll be expected to handle all pest types and carry out extermination as a routine part of the job. Please only apply if you're happy with this.
